In 2009, Blizzard announced that it would be releasing a magazine with Future US Ltd. This magazine was not available in shops and book stores and can only be obtained through online subscription. It was released quarterly for two years.In late 2011 Blizzard announced that the magazine was no longer available and promised subscribers with suitable compensations.

World of Warcraft Movies

Back in 2006,  Legendary Pictures acquired film rights to make a movie from Warcraft after getting the go ahead from Blizzard Entertainment. This movie will not follow one specific game story line but still be part of the fantasy universe as in the video games.

BlizzCon, it was unveiled that the film will aim for a projected 2009 release. It has since been moved to 2013 on IMDB. It was also revealed that the movie will take place from an Alliance perspective, and current World of Warcraft storyline, and that it has a $100 million plus budget.

Chris Metzen  in 2008 has stated that  the story would revolve around a “Kick Ass Human Character”, which would not be Varian Wrynn, the then-unannounced hero of the comic.

Uwe Boll,the well known director, expressed interest in directing the movie, even going so far as meeting with Paul Sams to pitch ideas, but Blizzard stated that they will never consider this and shall not give the film rights to him in view of his bad track records in such kind of ventures.

Sam Raimi, was eventually given this task based on his past experience in ventures like   The Evil Dead series and the Spider-Man films,  Blizzard Entertainment  later fully approved him.

It was later announced that the budget would not be less than 200 millions

MTV Multiplayer announced that Robert Rodat of saving private Ryan would be writing the story for the movie.

Sony confirmed back in 2010 that Raimi would not direct their next Spider-Man release and many have read between the lines that this only  happened only in order to leave plenty of time for him to prepare for his next project and starting developing the script for the new warcraft movie venture.
